Overview
The Journal Committee realises UNSA’s vision of how journalism should work. In a time where global freedom of press is under fire on multiple fronts, we want to contribute our tiny, little share to the local media’s health.
As a team, we aim to follow the conversations we deem most important. This not only applies to local and international politics and events, but also to recurring themes within society at large. As the world continues to change at a rapid pace, so too must the global media change with it. This means staying up to date with the most pressing matters and conversations, and informing your readers of what is going on out there. From the fight against global climate breakdown and the continued oppression of minorities to UM student politics and cultural events, we aim to leave no stone unturned.
Student papers run by student unions have a long tradition; in the 19th century, they were the place for young European academics to voice their radical political views, making them a major driving force behind numerous liberal uprisings. During the 20th century, those countries falling into dictatorship forcefully cracked down on these forums of progressive thought, so that they carried on delivering subversive content underground. Elsewhere, they flourished on French, American, and British campuses. The civil rights movements during the sixties especially saw an explosion of diverse and explosive student publications.
The views and opinions expressed in this Journal are those of the Journal and its writers. The Journal’s views and opinions do not represent the official stance of the UNSA.

For you,
the Journal Committee can be an opportunity to gather experience in the craft: writing, editing, digital teamwork, social media work, podcasting, interviewing, and more. If you are looking to polish your CV with real, tangible experience then this is an excellent way to do so. You do not have to be an achieved, published writer to join; you will be one step closer to your goals by the end of the year.
